Description:

White Stork - called by many the symbol of the Polish countryside - it is the most numerous species of going to our resort. Each year we assist approximately one hundred twenty-one subjects who are in an emergency. As the only facility in the region, we accept injured birds from the whole sub-Carpathian region and neighboring provinces. There are many reasons, of which animals require urgent medical attention, but the most common, with which we deal include heavy wings and limbs fractures caused by falls from nests, collisions with buildings and woundings. A large pogrom among the storks spread too high voltage lines. In most cases, contact with electric current for the stork is mortal, and when it will be lucky enough to survive, waiting for him a long and arduous struggle with critical complications, such as severe paralysis. Recently, more and more frequently we encounter also the poisoning. Do not refuse to help and accept each individual. Regardless of the damage we are doing everything in our power to make their rehabilitation a success. Birds are staying at the resort for a total cure and achieve full efficiency which enables them to self-survival in the wild. Depending on the type and severity of injury time ranging from thirty days sometimes up to over a year. We also have about fifteen permanent residents who are disabled flightless birds, who, because of very serious injuries, mainly amputations, never rises to the skies. They are perfect for sires. Every year, lame pairs build nests on the ground, to spend then the world fully healthy offspring. In a situation where global white stork population is shrinking, it is a great success for us. From year to year in the best of our ability, we try to improve conditions for rehabilitation of this bird. Thanks to our efforts did properly secure a special paddock, in which our patients can feel safe. Without fear of uninvited guests birds can practice their fly skills, mate, put their homes and raise their young.

In summer, the number of simultaneously present storks on the treatment is close to a hundred. In the autumn months in the resort is usually around sixty individuals. Based on the received signals, we expect in the near future may reach us yet about twenty new residents. In addition to the above-disabled patients, these are birds whose treatment because of health status and time in which to reach us, we could not finish before the last flights to Africa. These animals are forced to spend the winter in our asylum to be able to fully recover and go on next year's migration routes. Contrary to appearances, and popular opinion storks great tolerate even twenty or twenty-five progressive frosts. Even raging blizzards and strong winds. The most important factor for successful acclimatization in the winter environment is regular abundance of nutrient-rich food. Keeping all of our children is no easy task. Apart from the enormous costs of medicines and medical supplies, the biggest challenge for us is their food. In the winter, white stork needs a day at least half a kilo of fresh meat or fish. The ratio of sixty individuals demand increased to thirty kilos. In just one month of freezing the whole flock are forced to provide almost tonne of fresh food. We urgently need a well inventory of straw that is used for stuffing runway and construction of temporary shelters for our charges for a period of strongest cold.

This annual share is devoted exclusively to our wintering storks. Through it you have the opportunity to support our birds. Any funds collected here will be transferred to meet necessary food needs. In addition to financial support, welcome the opportunity to accept any kind donations in the form of fresh meat, fish and straw. Every year, thanks to your valuable assistance mainly, our storks manage to survive to salutary spring, which is equivalent for most charges to back to their natural environment.
